Ashley Sams Named The American Female Diver of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - East Carolina junior diver Ashley Sams has been recognized by The American as the Female Diver-of-the-Week for the third time in her career, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
Sams received the weekly accolade after she captured the 1-meter diving event and produced a runner-up finish off the 3-meter board at the Navy Tri-Meet with the host Midshipmen and Old Dominion. She edged out Julie Jesse of Navy by two-plus points with a score of 242.05 to earn the win for the Pirates. In the 3-meter competition, Sams fell just short of a sweep as she produced a score of 260.25, while Jesse had score of 262.65.
The ECU swimming & diving teams will return to action October 23-24 with a dual meet against UNC Wilmington. The meet will begin on the UNCW campus Friday and conclude Saturday at Minges Natatorium.
