GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina baseball team will conclude its fall practice this weekend with its annual Purple-Gold World Series at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium starting Friday, Oct. 30 at 5 p.m. (EDT).
The Pirates, who began team practice on Sept. 27, will play the first of three intra-squad scrimmages starting Oct. 30 at 5 p.m., followed by game two on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 1 p.m. before concluding the annual event on Sunday, Nov. 1 at 2 p.m. Admission is free to all Pirate fans for the weekend series.
Prior to the Purple-Gold Draft, which was held Monday, second-year head coach Cliff Godwin named Garrett Brooks (Gold) and Parker Lamm (Purple) player managers for their respective squads. Fans can follow the action this weekend via the @ECUBaseball Twitter account.
Junior lefthanders Evan Kruczynski (Gold) and Jacob Wolfe (Purple) will toe the rubber in game one, while the rest of the pitching rotation will be determined as the series progresses.
Godwin, who will serve as the commissioner, has indicated that Purple will be the home team for Games 1 and 3 and will occupy the third base dugout.
Sunday is also ECU's Fall "Meet the Pirates" Event where fans will get a chance to meet the 2016 Pirates up close and personal. Following the intra-squad scrimmage, there will be a special ceremony on the field where ECU Director of Athletics Jeff Compher will present Godwin and members of the 2015 American Athletic Conference Championship squad with their rings.
Fans will have a chance to tour the facilities at Clark-LeClair Stadium beginning at 2 p.m., and after the ring ceremony, kids in attendance will have a chance to run the bases before fans (18 or older) can try to win two (2) FREE season tickets for the upcoming baseball season by participating in the "Swing for Your Seats" post-game promotion.
