
Pirates Finish Second At All-North Carolina Invitational

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The East Carolina men's and women's swimming and diving teams each took second place at the season-opening All-North Carolina Invitational at the Greensboro Aquatic Center Saturday.
The men earned 1314.5 points and the women scored 1343 points as NC State claimed both titles with 1713 and 1688 points, respectively, in the fourth annual event. It was the fourth consecutive runner-up finish for the ECU women and third straight second-place finish for its men.
The ECU women's team posted a pair of individual victories as sophomore Vendela Norrman won the 200-yard breaststroke and senior Bailie Monahan touched first in the 200-yard butterfly. Monahan also finished second in the 100-yard butterfly, missing out on the stroke sweep by 0.57. Senior Megan Sellers nearly gave ECU a sweep of the breaststroke events finishing 0.06 out of first-place in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Ashley Sams and Zoe Feingold placed second and third, respectively, in the women's 3-meter diving competition.
On the men's side, senior Michael Dugan claimed second-place in the 1650-yard freestyle, finishing 0:00.08 out of first place, for the Pirates' only individual medal swim.
ECU swept the medal stand in the 1-meter springboard competition with Scottie Kent (251.50) edging out teammate Matt Mullen (250.78) by 1.28 points for first-place. Zach Duval finished in third with 231.23 points.
East Carolina opens its dual meet season next Saturday, Oct. 10 in Annapolis, Md. with a tri-meet against Navy and Old Dominion at Lejeune Hall on the campus of the U.S. Naval Academy.
