Postgame Quotes vs. N.C. A&T
December 13, 2015 | Men's Basketball
East Carolina Head Coach Jeff Lebo
Opening statement
"It was a good win., especially with A&T coming in winning four in a row. We didn't shot it very well, but we didn't turn it over. I thought Charles Foster played well coming off the bench giving us some points and B.J. Tyson was really good and really consistent. Kentrell Barkley was all over the place, 11 points, 6 assists, a blocked shot and two steals. He's a guy that exudes confidence and toughness. I wish I could inject that confidence and toughness into the rest of my guys, but I love when he comes off the bench and what he provides, he's like a senior out there."
On Charles Foster's performance
"He did a good job defensively that's why he got a chance to play a little more. I thought he did a good job on [Sam] Hunt in the zone."
On the team's overall performance
"We wanted to try to keep them off the foul line. You give up shots in[the zone] but you keep people off the foul line. In their last win at home I think they took 43 foul shots, and tonight they only got 17. I thought [Bruce] Beckford was terrific. He's a terrific player and he's hard to guard, but we did a good job particularly in the second half in our zone being able to make them shoot perimeter shots. We've got a lot of deficiencies that we're trying to hide but we've got to be able to shoot the ball much better. I don't think we're going to be able to score the ball inside much with what we have so it puts severe pressure on our perimeter shooting."
On the team's slow starts
"I don't know what it is about the starts, but we look slow, our decision making is not particularly good, we're not physical, our energy is not what I'd like to see to start the game and that's why we go to the bench. [The starters] are going to have to have better starts or they are going to have to sit a little bit. We've got to get Caleb [White] going; his first halves have been frustrating I know for him and for us. He's got severe pressure to be consistent and knock down 3s and be a key perimeter shooter for us."
Junior Guard Charles Foster
On earning the opportunity to get some extra minutes
"I just compete everyday in practice. B.J. [Tyson] is always on me, Lance [Tejada], Caleb [White], Prince [Williams], they always push me everyday in practice. [They all] tell me, "Keep going. Keep your head up. You'll get your opportunities when they come. Just keep working hard."
On difference between junior college level and Division I
"At the beginning of the season, I didn't know the offense, wasn't used to the speed, but I just got used to it in practice, and each game I get some minutes, that I just got used to the speed, and the transition and stuff like that.
"Everybody is bigger and stronger than you, so you have to know how to use your body to be physical too and stuff like that."
Sophomore Guard B.J. Tyson
On what it means to see Charles Foster playing well
"It means a lot, we're happy for him. Like he said, we're always on him. And I always tell him, he's going to get that chance, so whenever he get's it, don't mess it up and just keep playing, and that's what he did. He took a great opportunity today, because [Coach] Lebo, he had a lot of trust in him, so that's great."
On being capable of producing, even after a slow start
"I just don't panic. I remember the first couple of games when I was struggling to shoot the ball, I just think back on that. Don't panic, don't do that, and just be patient, that's what I did. I was patient and it came to me."
On making the turn around after a slow start
"I just want to give credit to my team. They're always on me, they stay on me, and it's helping me out a lot. Like I said, I'm being patient, and I'm just playing my game that I played last year."
