GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina women's basketball team will return from a seven-day hiatus between games to play the first of two Southeastern Conference opponents on its non-conference slate on Saturday, Dec. 5 at Auburn. Opening tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. (ET).
The contest will be broadcast on SEC Network+ and available on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app.
LAST TIME OUT
East Carolina (6-2) played three games, Nov. 26-28, at the Lone Star Showcase in Austin, Texas, falling to Creighton in game one, before taking down Eastern Washington in its second matchup. The Pirates held the lead in the final minute of a furious fourth-quarter comeback against 19th-ranked Northwestern in the final contest, but eventually suffered a three-point loss to the Wildcats.
SCOUTING AUBURN
The Tigers have won three-straight heading into Saturday's game. Four players are averaging double-digits scoring, led by junior guard Brandy Montgomery's 17.5 points and post presence Tra'Cee Tanner's 14.2 points and 8.7 rebounds. Most recently, Auburn (5-1) won two games in Puerto Rico, edging Boise State, 55-53, before clipping Minnesota, 81-79, in overtime.
ECU-AUBURN CONNECTIONS
The Pirates and Tigers might have no history on the hardwood, but current ECU men's basketball head coach Jeff Lebo served in the same position at Auburn from 2004-10. Former Auburn Head Football Coach and Athletics Director Pat Dye was East Carolina's football coach from 1974-79, while former Auburn Head Baseball Coach Hal Baird held the same title at ECU for five seasons from 1980-84. He mentored Bo Jackson and Frank Thomas while with the Tigers.
PAYNE'S NOVEMBER TO REMEMBER
In eight November games, Jada Payne ranked tied for first among all NCAA Division I players with six double-doubles. She averaged 21.5 points and 11 rebounds on 62.5-percent shooting and was the only player in the country to rank in the top 25 in those three categories. The sample is not skewed, as her eight games were the most among all qualified players.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE BUBBLE
East Carolina has had two or more players record a double-double in the same game on three different occasions so far this season:
Nov. 22 at Delaware
Jada Payne 22 points/17 rebounds
I'Tiana Taylor 11 points/11 rebounds
Nov. 27 vs. Eastern Washington
Jada Payne 20 points/16 rebounds

Nov. 28 vs. No. 19 Northwestern

Sixth-year Head Coach Heather Macy won her 200th-career game at SMU last season and recently won No. 100 at ECU last Friday, Nov. 27 in the 80-62 victory over Eastern Washington at the Lone Star Showcase in Austin, Texas. Macy is just five wins behind Cathy Andruzzi, 10 behind Catherine Bolton and 26 away from Sharon Baldwin-Tener for the top three spots in program history.
AMERICAN CONFERENCE HONOR ROLL
Jada Payne has been named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll each of the first three weeks this season (Nov. 16, Nov. 23 and Nov. 30).
