
ECU Goes After First American Swimming And Diving Titles

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The East Carolina swimming and diving team begins its quest for its American Athletic Conference Championship Wednesday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center and concludes Saturday, Feb. 21. The preliminaries start up each day at 10 a.m. with the finals taking place at 6 p.m.
The women's meet will include teams from Cincinnati, UConn, East Carolina, Houston, SMU and Tulane. The men's field includes Cincinnati, UConn, East Carolina and SMU.

The women are in the top-three fastest times of the league in six events with junior Bailie Monahan holding the top time in The American in the 200 fly (1:59.88) and Lauren Chew owning the fastest time in the 1650 free (16:39.21). Monahan also posted the second-fastest time in the 100 fly (55.09) and third-best in the 200 IM (2:02.68) this year.
On the men's side, senior Rokas Cepulis recorded the fastest time among all conference swimmers in three events during the dual meet season: 200 IM (1:47.86), 100 breast (54.22) and 200 breast (1:55.88). Cepulis is one of seven ECU swimmers to post top-three American conference times in nine events this year. Nikola Simic is owner of the league's best times in 50 and 100 free. The Pirates also registered the conference's best times in the 200 medley and 400 free relay events.
The ladies are searching for their first conference title since winning the 2003 Conference USA Championship, while the men are going after their first championship since winning the CAA in 1989.
