Love Takes Home American Athletic Conference Honors
April 06, 2015 | Baseball
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - East Carolina senior Reid Love has been named American Athletic Conference Pitcher-of-the-Week according to an announcement by the league office Monday.
Love picked up the honors after tossing a four-hit complete game shutout in East Carolina's 3-0 series opening win over Tulane in AAC action Thursday night. The lefty, who improved to 3-2 on the season, faced two batters of the minimum where he allowed just five runners to reach base - four singles and an error.
The Dunnellon, Fla. native fanned six batters (five swinging), did not allow a runner to reach second base and induced three key double plays from his defense. He retired the side in order seven times and faced four batters in a frame twice (fourth and eight innings) for his third career shutout and fourth complete game. At the plate he batted .400 on the weekend (4-for-10) scoring four runs and driving in one, which came on his third home run of the season in the fifth inning of game two in the Pirates 11-4 series clinching win.
On the season, Love has appeared in 13 games (three starts) posting a 3-2 record with three saves and a 2.88 ERA in 34.1 innings.
Love becomes the second Pirate to earn league weekly honors this season following Luke Lowery's Hitter-of-the-Week selection back on Mar. 16.
Sophomore Charlie Yorgen was named to the AAC Honor Roll after batting .545 (6-for-11) with three RBI and four runs during the Tulane series. He is the fourth different Pirate to take home Honor Roll accolades joining Lowery (Feb. 26, Mar.2), Evan Kruczynski (Mar. 9) and Travis Watkins (Mar. 9).
The Pirates (19-13) will return to action on Tuesday, Apr. 6 when they travel to Campbell for a midweek match-up Jim Perry Stadium. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. (ET).
