GREENVILLE, N.C. -- East Carolina Head Football Coach Ruffin McNeill's sixth season is officially underway as he welcomed members of his 105-man preseason roster to campus Wednesday afternoon to kick off the 2015 campaign.
The student-athletes started the day by handling traditional check-in responsibilities such as physicals, equipment-fitting sessions and portrait photos before moving into Tyler Hall on campus. Following a couple of meetings and its first team dinner, ECU then sat through mandated NCAA meetings before returning to the dorms in preparation for its initial practice of camp scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
East Carolina returns six starters on offense, five on the defensive side of the ball and welcomes back a total of 59 lettermen from last year's squad that finished 5-3 in its American Athletic Conference inaugural season.
Of the 11 returnees, six Pirates have been named to a preseason watch list in Zeek Bigger (Chuck Bednarik Award, Dick Butkus Award, Rotary Lombardi Award), J.T. Boyd (Rotary Lombardi Award, Outland Trophy), Ike Harris (Rotary Lombardi Award, Outland Trophy), Isaiah Jones (Fred Biletnikoff Award, Paul Hornung Award), Montese Overton (Dick Butkus Award, Rotary Lombardi Award) and Bryce Williams (John Mackey Award).
ECU also returns three starters on special teams including 2014 Ray Guy Award Watch List selection Worth Gregory.
Also headlining a list of fall returnees are seven upperclassmen in Davon Grayson (OR), 2014 Jim Thorpe Award semifinalist Josh Hawkins (CB), Domonique Lennon (FS), Dontae Levingston (OL), Quincy McKinney (OL), Colton Oliver (SSN) and Johnathon White (DE).
Single-game, three-game mini packs and season tickets for all ECU homes games are still available to the Pirate Nation and can be purchased by calling the ECU Athletic Ticket Office at 252-737-4500, through the Online Ticket Center, or by visiting the ECU Athletics Ticket Office.
