GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina's Frankie Everitte has been named the Skippers Dugout Division I Volunteer Coach-of-the-Year as voted on by the college baseball coaching community, the organization announced Thursday afternoon.
Everitte, who begins his second year with the Pirates, helped ECU to a 40-win season, an American Athletic Conference Tournament title and a berth in the Coral Gables Regional a year ago - its first NCAA Regional since 2012.
"Frankie has been a tremendous asset to our program," said second-year head coach Cliff Godwin. "He has done a great job working with our outfield defense on a daily basis, along with being one of the best camp coordinators in the country!"
As the Pirates outfield coach, Everitte helped mentor a group of players that recorded 17 outfield assists (Top 5 nationally), including a pair at the plate against Tulane in the eighth inning at the AAC Tournament in a 3-1 victory.
Under his guidance, Reid Love, who made 23 starts in the outfield, earned Third-Team All-America honors by Baseball America as a utility player. The 10th round selection by the Baltimore Orioles was a finalist for the John Olerud Two-Way Player-of-the-Year and took home First-Team All-American Conference accolades as a pitcher and utility player, the latter a unanimous selection.
Rising senior Garrett Brooks earned Coral Gables All-Regional Team honors after batting .667 (4-for-6), reaching base five times (four singles and hit by pitch) in two contests to lead the four-team regional in batting.
Brooks started 40 of 55 games in centerfield during the 2015 campaign, batting a career-high .270 (34-for-126) with three home runs, 14 RBI and 23 runs scored - all personal bests. Brooks was one of five Pirates who drew more walks than strikeouts (21 to 17), while also tallying five sacrifices and swiping 5-of-7 bases.
Defensively, he registered the third-highest fielding percentage on the club (.991) behind Eric Tyler (1.000) and Travis Watkins (.993), recording one error in 116 chances (111 putouts). Brooks tied Parker Lamm for second on the team with four outfield assists trailing only Tyler's five and turned an outfield best three double plays.
No stranger on the camp circuit, Everitte can be found traveling the country working at some of the nations top baseball camps and showcases which have included stops at Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, Elon, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Ole Miss, where he first met Godwin.
Everitte will receive his award at the 2016 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Convention the weekend of Jan. 7-10, 2016 in Nashville, Tenn.
