
Pirates Sweep Dual Meet From Old Dominion

NORFOLK, Va. --- The East Carolina swimming and diving teams won 21 of 32 events to sweep a dual meet from Old Dominion on the ODU campus Saturday afternoon.
The ECU women's team improved to 5-1 with a 178.5-115.5 win, while the men's squad posted a 182-118 win and improved to 4-1 in dual meets this season.
Senior Bailie Monahan captured first-place in four women's events. She helped the 200-yard medley relay team set a pool record and the 400-yard freestyle relay squad register a two-second victory, while sweeping the butterfly events. Monahan was 2.18 seconds faster than teammate Julie Lajoie in the 200 and was nearly a second faster than ODU's Mackenzie Payment in the 100.
Anna Maria Svanbergsson was also a multi-event winner, capturing first-place in the women's 100 and 200-yard freestyle. Vendela Norrman was victorious in the 200-yard breaststroke and Lajoie won the 500-yard freestyle.
Boleck De Pawlikowski set the men's pool record in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:50.31, just 0.38 ahead of teammate Fran Krznaric. John Myhre finished third to give the Pirates a sweep of medal spots in the event.
DePawlikowski also touched first in the 1,000-yard freestyle with Michael Dugan claiming victory in the 200 and 500-yard freestyle races. Krznaric won the 100-yard backstroke and Shawn Hunter placed first in the 50-yard freestyle.
Ashley Sams swept the women's diving events as did Matt Mullen on the men's side, while posting NCAA Regional Zone qualifying scores. Zach Duval also recorded regional qualifying scores.
East Carolina returns to Minges Natatorium on Saturday, Jan. 23, to host UMBC at 1 p.m.
