
Three Pirates Receive Weekly American Swimming And Diving Accolades

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- East Carolina swimmer Bailie Monahan and diving teammates Ashley Sams and Matt Mullen, along with Cincinnati swimmer Chris Bready, were named this week's American Athletic Conference Swimmers and Divers of the Week.
Monahan placed first in each of the four events she competed in against Old Dominion over the weekend. The native of Stafford, Va., helped the 200-yard medley relay team establish a pool record with a first-place time of 1:44.08. Monahan also swam the third leg of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team. Individually, the senior won the 100-yard and 200-yard butterfly events with times of 56.46 and 2:02.62 to receive the second American Women's Swimmer-of-the-Week award of her career.
Mullen swept the diving events in a dual meet win against Old Dominion on Saturday to be named American Men's Diver-of-the-Week for the first time in his career. In the 1-meter, the sophomore produced a winning score of 305.62 and won by 10-plus points in the 3-meter with a first-place score of 333.30.
Sams, who was named The American Women's Diver-of-the-Week for the fourth time, defeated the field in the diving events in the 178.5-115.5 win over Old Dominion on Saturday. The junior captured the top spot in the 1-meter event with a score of 230.55 and claimed the 3-meter with a final score of 260.70.
East Carolina returns to competition Saturday at Minges Natatorium as it host UMBC beginning at 1 p.m.
