
Pettersson Leads Pinehurst Challenge After 36 Holes

PINEHURST, N.C. – Junior Lisa Pettersson shot a second round score of 65 (7-under) tying an 18-hole school record and currently leads the Pinehurst Challenge by one stroke. The two-day, 54-hole event is being held at the Pinehurst No. 1.
Pettersson (137) opened the event with an even par 72 and followed that with her personal-best round of 65, which consisted of eight birdies (five on the front nine), one bogey and nine pars. The freshmen duo of Dorthea Forbrigd (74-70) and Siranon Shoomee (72-72) are tied for sixth at 144, while sophomores Kate Law (80-70) and Carley Cox (77-73) hold a share of 40th with 36-hole scores of 150.
Playing as individuals, sophomore Catherine Ashworth (76-70) is tied for 12th at 146 and freshman Grace Yatawara (73-74) is tied for 19th at 147.
The Pirates (572), who hold a 10-shot lead over Auburn (288-294=582), fired rounds of 295 and 277 with the latter setting a new 18-hole school record. The previous record of 278 was set at the Las Vegas Showdown in the fall of 2011 during second round action. Rounding out the Top 5 are Samford (583), Wichita State (585), Kennesaw State (591), Maryland (591) and College of Charleston (591).
