Gameday Preview: ECU at UNCW
December 19, 2016 | Men's Basketball
East Carolina will renew its longtime rivalry with UNCW Tuesday, Dec. 20, when it visits Trask Coliseum for a 6:30 p.m. tip-off.
Â
The Pirates are coming off a 53-35 loss at home Thursday to College of Charleston, their second straight defeat. Despite holding the Cougars to 33.3 percent shooting from the field, ECU (7-4) couldn't overcome its own shooting woes that resulted in a season-low 23.4 percent and a record-low 35 points.
Â
After trailing by 29, ECU mounted a rally to trim its deficit to 11, but CofC scored the game's final seven points to claim the 18-point victory.
Â
UNCW (10-1) has won seven in a row and is coming off a 100-64 victory over Radford Saturday.
"They're really good, very quick, very athletic and can turn you over," ECU Head Coach Jeff Lebo said. "They can score the ball from multiple spots. On their [home court], it'll be a tough test for us. No doubt."
Â
ECU and UNCW are meeting for the 64th time with Seahawks holding a 35-28 series lead. ECU won last season's meeting, posting a 78-73 victory in Greenville. The win was just the Pirates' third in seven non-conference games against UNCW since 2005.
