Pirate Baseball Drafts Galaska From Team Impact

GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina University baseball players and coaches officially welcomed the Galaska family during a Team IMPACT (Inspire, Motivate, Play Against Challenges Together) Draft Day on Wednesday at Harvey Hall inside the Murphy Center as eleven-year-old Rhettec Galaska signed a contract as baseball's newest member.
"We're excited to welcome Rhettec to our program" said third-year head coach Cliff Godwin. "He has been an inspiration to our team and we look forward to developing our relationship with him and his family throughout the years to come."
Rhettec, a native of Greenville who was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2014, was joined by his mother and father Tommi and Jeff Galaska as well as his two brothers, Roman and Ryker, at the signing ceremony. Following a press conference and signing of a National Letter of Intent (NLI), Godwin, his staff and members of the 2017 Pirate baseball team presented Rhettec with an official jersey before closing out the evening with one-on-one interviews and posing for pictures.
Through Team IMPACT, a nonprofit based in Boston whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children facing life-threatening and chronic illnesses through the power of team, Rhettec will become a member of the ECU baseball team, attending practices, games, and events.
Since its inception in 2011, Team IMPACT has matched 1,000+ children to over 450 colleges and universities throughout the country. The child gains great strength, camaraderie and support and the student athletes are taught lessons about courage, resiliency and life perspective that they can't learn in a classroom.
