GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina women's basketball team gets back on the road for an American Athletic Conference matchup at Houston on Wednesday, Feb. 17. Opening tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast free on American Digital Network.
LAST TIME OUT
East Carolina (9-16, 3-10 AAC) suffered its sixth-straight defeat, 79-78, in overtime against Memphis in its Play4Kay Pink Game on Saturday evening. Four Pirates scored in double-figures, led by I'Tiana Taylor's 13th double-double with 22 points on 10-for-22 shooting from the field while matching a career-high with 19 rebounds. Jada Payne added 19 points, nine rebounds and three assists, while DeVaughn Gray added 16 points off the bench. Marina Laramie contributed 10 points, as Alexandra Frazier topped her previous personal-best with eight assists. Ariel Hearn led the Tigers with 22 points, eight assists and four steals, while Mooriah Rowser chipped in 14 points.
ALL-TIME VERSUS HOUSTON
The Pirates trail the Cougars, 9-6, in the all-time series, but have won each of the last five meetings and six of the last seven, which includes two-straight victories inside Hofheinz Pavilion.
SCOUTING THE COUGARS
Houston (5-19, 1-12 AAC) has lost three-straight games, most recently a pair of road tilts at Temple and Tulsa. The Cougars average 55.1 points per game and own a -9.0 scoring margin, as they shoot 34.1 percent overall as a team and commit 18.7 turnovers per game Freshman Serithia Hawkins leads the team in scoring (8.3 points) and rebounding (7.3).

On Jan. 14, the Pirates held on for a 76-70 home victory after seniors Jada Payne, I'Tiana Taylor and DeVaughn Gray accounted for 63 of ECU's 76 points. Payne (24 pts/10 rebs) and Taylor (21 pts/16 rebs) posted respective double-doubles while Gray added a season-high 18 points and a career-high four assists while hitting four threes. Houston placed three scorers in double-figures, led by Chyanne Butler's 12 points, while Jacqueline Blake and Amerson chipped in 11 points apiece.
BACK-TO-BACK OVERTIMES
East Carolina played consecutive overtime games at SMU on Feb. 9 and at home against Memphis on Feb. 13, marking the first time that occurred since the Feb. 2006 when the Pirates played overtime contests in three-straight ballgames (Feb. 12, 17, & 19).
PAYNE NAMED TO DAWN STALEY AWARD WATCH LIST
Jada Payne was one of just 16 players to be named to the 2016 Dawn Staley Award Mid-Season Watch List on Jan. 28. The award recognizes the nation's best guard in Women's Division I college basketball, exemplified by skills that Staley possessed: ball handling, scoring, ability to distribute and will to win.
PAYNE CLIMBING ALL-TIME SCORING CHART
In just two full seasons, Jada Payne scored the 17th-most points in ECU history and is on pace to become one of top three scorers the program has ever had in just three years' time. Payne surpassed 1,500 in just her third season at East Carolina on Jan. 17 at USF and has 1,886-career points. With 114 more during her senior campaign, an average of 19 per game the rest of this season, she will eclipse 2,000 for her career.
