800-Yard Freestyle Relay Highlights
HOUSTON --- The East Carolina University men's swimming and diving team is in first place after the first day of the 2016 American Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships with 128 points at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center (CRWC) Natatorium.
The quartet of senior Michael Dugan, sophomore John Myhre, junior Fran Krznaric and senior Julien Dodu claimed the gold medal in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 6:27.91, nearly five seconds ahead of second-place SMU (6:32.71).
Krznaric joined Will Hicks, Adam Dear and Shawn Hunter to win silver in the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:27.69, 0:00.20 behind first-place SMU.
Sophomore Scott Kent and junior Zach Duval captured the silver and bronze medals on the 1-meter dive with scores of 323.95 and 292.25
The ECU women's team resides in fourth-place with 82 points. UConn leads the ladies' field with 116 points followed by Houston with 103 and SMU with 84. Tulane sits in fifth-place with 79 points with Cincinnati rounding out the field with 70 points.
The 200-yard medley relay team of sophomore Logan Graumann, senior Megan Sellers, senior Bailie Monahan and senior Anastasia Amoiroglou earned a spot on the medal podium by finishing third with a time of 1:40.21, missing the silver medal by 0:00.02.
Competition continues on Thursday, with preliminary swimming events starting at 10 a.m. CT, followed by diving preliminaries at 12:30 CT. The finals are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. CT.
