MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. --- East Carolina signee Blake Taylor led wire-to-wire to win the inaugural Dustin Johnson World Junior Championship at TPC Myrtle Beach earlier this week.
Taylor finished the tournament at 2-over par 218 (70-74-74). He opened the final round with a three-shot lead and won by four strokes. Taylor pared the first five holes before shooting 4-over on the final four holes of the front nine. After making the turn, he stood at 5-over and proceeded to birdie 12 and 13 and pared the next four holes before sinking a long birdie putt on 18 to finish the tournament.
Taylor, a senior at Wilmington Christian Academy, led the field with 11 birdies to go along with 32 pars.
"It's definitely a big deal," Taylor said. "I was able to birdie 13 which I think put me above the guys I was playing with just because I thought it was playing really hard. From 15 in I was going nothing but center of the green, trying to get two putts and make somebody do something crazy to get [the lead] back."
Fellow ECU signee Patrick Stephenson finished tied for fifth-place at 12-over 228 (74-78-76).
The Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship attracted 90 kids from 12 states and eight countries, including Canada, China, England, Japan, Philippines, Scotland and Sweden.
