February 22, 2016 | Baseball
GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina freshman shortstop Turner Brown has been named to the first American Athletic Conference baseball Weekly Honor Roll of the 2016 season, according to an announcement by the league Monday.
Brown, a true freshman, notched a pair of starts against Longwood in the opening series of the season, which included an Opening Day nod. The Whiteville, N.C. native went 3-for-3 with a home run, three RBI, two runs scored and was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle in his collegiate debut in the Pirates 11-1 victory.
He followed his debut getting another start at short in ECU's 9-6 win on Saturday where he was 1-for-3.
On the young season he is batting a team-best .667 (4-for-6) with two extra base hits, including the Pirates lone homer of the season.
Brown and the Pirates will return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 23 against N.C. A&T. The contest was originally scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 4 p.m. (EST), but was moved due to potential inclement weather in the area.
