GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina women's basketball team will make its first trip to Gampel Pavilion in program history when it takes on No. 1 Connecticut in American Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon. Opening tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on ESPN3.
LAST TIME OUT
East Carolina (9-13, 3-7 AAC) dropped a 55-54 home contest to Tulsa (8-15, 5-7 AAC) on Wednesday night. Jada Payne compiled her 11th double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds to go with three assists, two blocks and a pair of steals. DeVaughn Gray and Khadidja Toure each shot 5-for-10 from the field and added 12 points apiece, while Alexandra Frazier dished out a personal-best six assists. I'Tiana Taylor flirted with a triple-double with seven points, seven boards and a career-high seven steals. Ashley Clark led all scorers with 22 points on 10-for-19 shooting to go with six rebounds, while Erika Wakfield chipped in 13 points for the Golden Hurricane.
ALL-TIME VERSUS CONNECTICUT
The Pirates trail the Huskies, 3-0, in the all-time series, as each of those three meetings came during the 2014-15 in their first season as co-members of The American. Saturday's contest will be not only be the fourth overall meeting between the two teams, but also the fourth different venue in which they've met (Minges Coliseum, XL Center, Mohegan Sun Arena, Gampel Pavilion).
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
Winners of three-straight national championships, UConn (21-0, 11-0 AAC) is led by All-Americans Breanna Stewart (19.6 ppg, 8.1 rpg, 4.1 apg and 3.1 bpg) and Moriah Jefferson(13.4 ppg, 5.2 apg and 2.7 spg), while having been ranked at the top of both national polls since last February. The Huskies rank No. 1 in the country in scoring offense (90 ppg), scoring defense (48.6 ppg), field goal percentage (.532) and free throw percentage (.801), while committing the second-fewest fouls per game (11.5) and holding the second-highest assist/turnover ration (1.8).
PAYNE NAMED TO DAWN STALEY AWARD WATCH LIST
Jada Payne was one of just 16 players to be named to the 2016 Dawn Staley Award Mid-Season Watch List on Jan. 28. The award recognizes the nation's best guard in Women's Division I college basketball, exemplified by skills that Staley possessed: ball handling, scoring, ability to distribute and will to win.
PAYNE CLIMBING ALL-TIME SCORING CHART
In just two full seasons, Jada Payne scored the 17th-most points in ECU history and is on pace to become one of top three scorers the program has ever had in just three years' time. Payne surpassed 1,500 in just her third season at East Carolina on Jan. 17 at USF and has 1,837-career points. With 163 more during her senior campaign, an average of 19.9 per game the rest of this season, she will eclipse 2,000 for her career.

East Carolina graduated six players last season, but only three of its six returners have been able to see the court this season. Those three (Jada Payne, I'Tiana Taylor and DeVaughn Gray) were responsible for 33.9 of the Pirates' 66.6 points per game last season, and are currently producing 41.4 of the team's 68.3 points per contest this season.
TAYLOR'S TALE
I'Tiana Taylor has posted seven double-doubles in ECU's first 10 conference games this season and has 12 total, which is tied for 13th nationally. In league play, Taylor is averaging 13.3 points and 12.1 rebounds while shooting 46.3 percent from the floor.
PAYNE BRINGS THE RAIN
Jada Payne broke her own ECU single-season record for three-pointers made with 80 in 33 games in 2014-15. She initially set the record in 2013-14 with 70 makes from beyond the arc and is on pace to break the school record for conversions in just three years:
