
Barkley Named To The American All-Rookie Team

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - East Carolina forward Kentrell Barkley was named to the American Athletic Conference All-Rookie Team, the league announced Tuesday.
Barkley ranked second among all American freshmen in rebounding (6.4 rpg) and assists (3.0), while finishing fourth among all rookies in scoring (10.3 ppg). He also tied for first along with Memphis freshman Dedric Lawson in steals (1.2 spg). He became just the first ECU freshman to record more than 300 points, 190 rebounds and 90 assists.
Barkley posted the highest field goal percentage (.467), assists per game average (3.6), steals per game average (1.3) and assist/turnover ratio (2.3) among all freshmen during conference play.
Barkley was named The American Rookie-of-the-Week on Dec. 14 after averaging 16.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists in a pair of games against College of Charleston and N.C. A&T. He recorded his first double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds at CofC. He was also named The American Weekly Honor Roll on Feb. 15 after posting a double-double at Cincinnati.
Joining Barkley on the all-rookie team were Lawson, Houston's Galen Robinson, Jr., USF's Jahmal McMurray and SMU's Shake Milton.
East Carolina begins play in the 2016 American Basketball Championship on Thursday at the Amway Center in Orlando. The Pirates play USF in the first game of the tournament at 3:30 p.m., a contest televised by ESPNU.
