
Kruczynski Named Semifinalist For Gregg Olson Award

OMAHA, NE - East Carolina junior Evan Kruczynski is one of 43 semifinalists named to the 2016 Gregg Olson Award, which is given to college baseball's "Breakout Player-of-the-Year". The annual award presented by Toolshed Sports, is given to a top amateur baseball player who elevates his game to an elite level throughout the season.
Kruczynski, who ranks among the American Athletic Conference leaders in six pitching categories, is the second Pirate to be named to the list following ECU alum Ryan Williams back in 2014.
The Franklin, Wisc. native owns a 6-1 record in 14 starts while posting a 1.95 ERA. He has allowed 27 runs (21 earned) on 68 hits in 97.0 innings. Kruczynski has tallied 12 quality starts with 77 strikeouts to just 18 walks.
The award is named after former Auburn Tiger star pitcher Gregg Olson, who became one of the top collegiate players in the nation after an initial season filled with only mixed success. Olson went on to become a two-time All American, first round draft pick, American League Rookie of the Year and MLB All Star. Like Olson, these players have elevated their game to an elite level and in many instances their team has mirrored their success as a direct result.
Finalists will be announced during Super Regional action and the winner of the 2016 Gregg Olson Award will be named in Omaha, Nebraska during the College World Series which is to be held this season at TD Ameritrade Park.
