GREENVILLE, N.C. - Kelly Brogan, a 5-10 setter, has committed to attend East Carolina University and play volleyball for the Pirates beginning in the fall of 2016, according to an announcement Wednesday by head coach Julie Torbett.
Brogan is the fourth member of ECU's 2016 recruiting class joining defensive specialist/libero Brandee Markwith (Honolulu, Hawai'i/Punahou), middle hitter Toya Osuegbu (Winder, Ga./Winder-Barrow) and outside hitter Taira Cottingham (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain).
"Kelly is a good setter," Torbett said. "She is tall and athletic. She will provide much needed depth in the setter spot, which will elevate the level in practice and push everyone on the court. We feel she is a great fit and we will see how quickly she can learn our plays and the players on the team."
Brogan helped lead the Golden Knights to an impressive 93-11 record in her four years as a member of the varsity squad. She amassed 1,634 assists, 228 digs, 158 kills and 96 aces in a best of three set format utilized by the state of New Jersey.
Brogan's senior campaign was one to remember as Old Tappan finished a perfect 26-0 on the way to the league, county, sectional and state championships. Her team also captured the State Tournament of Champions crown by defeating four-time defending champion and state No. 2 Immaculate Heart 2-0 in the final. Brogan was selected to the all-state first team as well as earning American Volleyball Coaches Association New Jersey Player of the Week accolades.
During her four years at Old Tappan, the Golden Knights won four league titles, four sectional championships, two state titles and made an appearance in the state championship game four times.
