ECU Concludes Fifth Workout Of Fall Camp
August 08, 2016 | Football
GREENVILLE, N.C. – First-year head coach Scottie Montgomery and his staff conducted a crisp 75-minute workout donning helmets and shorts Monday afternoon at Hight Field inside the Cliff Moore Practice Complex. East Carolina completed its fifth session of fall camp under partly cloudy skies before moving into full pads and its first two-a-day on Tuesday.
"Today was a great focus and detailed practice, which we really needed," Montgomery said. "We wanted to come back out early today and get our legs back underneath us a little bit before going into our first two-a-day session. On both sides of the ball, the upperclassmen have been teaching and pushing the younger guys, and you can see that as the camp has began to unfold. Now we will hit the film room and review today's practice and get ready for tomorrow."
Originally scheduled for a late afternoon practice, the Pirates started their workout at 11:30 a.m. to head off potential rain that was forecast for later in the day.
ECU kicked things off with a team breakfast and moved right into individual meetings where it reviewed film from Sunday night. After a special teams meeting, the Pirates hit the field with a 10-minute flex period before spending 12 minutes with special team corrections and a walk-through. During this time, the offensive and defensive lines worked on their pass rush and run blocking techniques, while the quarterbacks focused on their drops, reads and releases.
After another 20 minutes of individual group work, which included routes vs. air, bag drills, ball security for the offense and run fit and pass corrections for the defense, ECU moved into a 20-minute team segment before closing out the practice with five minutes of conditioning.
Single-game, three-game mini packs and season tickets for all ECU home games are still available to the Pirate Nation and can be purchased by calling the ECU Athletic Ticket Office at 252-737-4500, through the Online Ticket Center, or by visiting the ECU Athletics Ticket Office.
