PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has elected its first-ever Executive Board in 2016-17 and East Carolina senior Jake Pierce, a member of the swimming and diving team, has been voted the coordinator of public relations.
"We're very proud of Jake's election on to The American SAAC Executive Board," Pirate head coach Rick Kobe said. "He's a hard working young man who has developed into an outstanding leader and will do great job for the conference."
A native of Hickory, N.C., Pierce currently serves as the president of the ECU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and has been a part of the Pirates' SAAC initiatives since his sophomore season.
Pierce has helped the ECU men's swimming and diving team capture the American Athletic Conference title in each of its first two seasons as member of the league.
Also elected to The American SAAC Executive Board was Bailee Logsdon, a senior on the University of Houston track and field team, who will serve as the Committee's vice chair. University of Cincinnati swimmer senior Samantha Wolkoff has been elected coordinator of student-athlete engagement; Temple junior, defensive lineman Jacob Martin has been named coordinator of alumni relations; and junior Danielle Dolence, a member of the Houston soccer team, was selected as the coordinator of community engagement. Former Temple University volleyball player Alyssa Drachslin, a 2016 graduate, begins her second year as The American's SAAC national representative.
The American SAAC serves as the voice of student-athletes who represent the Conference's 12 member institutions spanning 21 sports. The mission of SAAC is to improve communication for all student-athletes at each member school as well as enhance communication between the institutions. SAAC takes an active role in understanding and providing feedback regarding NCAA and Conference legislations, and promotes student-athlete well-being, academic achievement, personal development and community service.
Beginning in 2016-17, The American's National SAAC representative and executive board members will be involved in various conference meetings throughout the year.
