GREENVILLE, N.C. ā For the first time since 2000-02, the East Carolina women's golf team captured back-to-back Lady Pirate Intercollegiate titles after posting an impressive 3-under par 285 walking away with the 2016 crown. The two-day, 54-hole event was being played at the par-72, 6,012-yard Greenville Country Club.
The Pirates (20-7), who entered final round action with an 11-stroke lead, cruised to its fifth career Lady Pirate Intercollegiate team title finishing 28 shots ahead of second-place Elon (908) and 30 strokes in front of Morehead State and Gardner-Webb (910). Finishing in fifth was Cincinnati with a 54-hole score of 911 (47-over).
Lisa Pettersson (72-75-67) and Dorthea Forbrigd earned all-tournament team honors after finishing in the Top 5. Pettersson registered her sixth career Top 5 (second of the season) with a 2-under par 214. Her final round 67 (5-under) was the low round of the event and is tied for fourth in the Pirate record books for 18-hole score.
Playing in her second career collegiate event, Forbrigd claimed a share of fifth place after rounds of 73, 72 and 73 for a 2-over 218. The freshman finished among the tournament leaders (Top 10) in par-3 scoring (t5/2.92), par-5 scoring (t7/4.75), par-4 scoring (t10/4.20), total birdies (t10/nine) and total pars (t10/35).
Kate Law registered her second career Top 10 finish and second Top 25 of the season after posting a 6-over 218 for a share of eighth. Law closed out the event with a 1-under 71 (second-lowest round of her career), which consisted of four birdies, three bogeys and 11 pars.
Rounding out the Pirates' roster were sophomores Catherine Ashworth (10-over/226) who finished tied for 15th and Carley Cox (15-over/231) who took a share of 31st.
Playing as individuals for ECU were the freshmen duo of Grace Yatawara and Siranon Shoomee. Yatawara, who was playing in her first collegiate tournament, finished tied for 15th with a score of 226 (10-over), while Shoomee shot a 15-over 231 to finished tied for 31st.
Morehead State's Anna Magnusson won medalist honors with a 4-under 212, which was one stroke off the 54-hole tournament record.
The Pirates will be back in action Oct. 10-11 when they participate in the Pinehurst Challenge, which will be held at Pinehurst No. 1.
