Ruiz Cruises Into Main Draw At Charleston Pro Event

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. - East Carolina sophomore women's tennis player Celia Ruiz won three-straight matches in the qualifying draw of the $10,000 International Tennis Federation (ITF) women's event in Charleston and advanced to the main draw of the tournament.
Ruiz opened play with a convincing 6-3, 6-0 first round victory over Navy's Brooke Bogdanovich. She followed up that performance by muscling her way to a 6-4, 0-6, 6-1 triumph against VCU's Janina Braun in the second round, before taking down former NC State No. 1 singles player Joelle Kissell, 6-4, 6-1, to lock up her bid into the main draw.
A 2016 American Athletic Conference All-Rookie Team choice, Ruiz will continue her journey in the main draw of the tournament on Wednesday, Sept. 28.
