GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina swimming and diving team held its annual intrasquad meet Friday afternoon at Minges Natatorium, setting eight meet records as the Purple team defeated the Gold group, 532-523.
Â
"This was one of the fastest Purple-Gold meets in history and the closest ever," Pirate head coach Rick Kobe. "We are very excited to have so many early season fast swims. We're looking forward to our upcoming dual meet season."
Â
Freshman Grega Popovich won both the men's 500 and 1000-yard freestyle events, setting the meet record in both events. Senior Earle Craven set the meet record in the men's 100-yard breaststroke as did junior Boleck DePawlikowski in the 200-yard backstroke.
Meet records were also established on the men's side in the 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relays.
Junior Vendela Norrman broke her own meet record in the women's 200-yard breaststroke by nearly two seconds for only women's individual record setting performance. The 400-yard freestyle relay team also established a new women's mark.
The Pirates will officially open the 2016-17 campaign Oct. 15 against Navy at Minges Natatorium.
