
Pirates Wrap Up Weekend At SC Collegiate Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. --- The East Carolina swimming and diving teams concluded a successful weekend at the South Carolina Collegiate Invitational Saturday at the Carolina Natatorium winning five of eight dual meets.
The women's team posted a 3-1 record by defeating UNCW (200-149), Wingate (210-129) and Queens (185-155), while losing to the host Gamecocks (185-152) to finish the dual meet season with a 9-3 record.
The men's team split its four dual meets and recorded victories over Wingate (200-129) and UNCW (200.5-130.5), but suffered losses to South Carolina (178-137) and Queens (181-163) to conclude its dual meet campaign with a 7-3 mark.
Vendela Norrman provided the lone overall first-place finish for ECU Saturday, winning the women's 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:18.72, 0.38 ahead of Queens' Dasha Talanova.
The ECU women registered four overall runner-up finishes Saturday. Julie Lajoie finished second in the 100-yard butterfly (57.04) and 400-yard IM (4:22.11) as did Marion Abert the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:14.56) and Alicia Roueche on the 1-meter springboard (250.50).
On the men's side, John Myhre finished second in the 50-yard freestyle (20.76) and helped the 400 freestyle relay team, which also consisted of Maxime Cadiat, Fran Krznaric and Blaz Demsar, claim second-place.
East Carolina will return to competition, Feb. 15-18 at the 2017 American Athletic Conference Championships at the University of Houston. The men's team will be looking to win its third consecutive American conference title.
