ECU Opens Season With Victory Over Coppin State

ECU built a 22-point halftime lead and never looked back as it cruised to 76-50 victory over Coppin State Sunday night in its season-opener.

The first half belonged to ECU as they outscored the Eagles 30-10 over a 12-minute stretch. The Pirates held Coppin State to just 18.5 percent shooting, allowing only five made field goals and holding it without a field goal over the final 5:25 of the half.

Junior Kentrell Barkley scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds on 5-of-7 shooting from the field and perfect 4-of-4 at the free throw line. Barkley scored the Pirates' first basket of the season after intercepting a pass and taking it the length of the court for a rim raising dunk.Â

COPPIN STATE PLAYER OF THE GAME
Adam Traore was the only player to reach double figures for Coppin State, scoring 10 points, He made 7-of-8 at the free throw and knocked in 1-of-3 3-point attempts. He also had a team leading six rebounds.
