GREENVILLE, N.C. – The ECU women's basketball team (2-4) is set to host former Conference USA rival and in-state foe Charlotte (2-4) at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. ECU and Charlotte have a long-standing rivalry dating back to when the two first met Jan. 19, 1983, when the Pirates defeated the 49ers 59-48 in Charlotte.

The Pirates are led by Mickayla Sanders who is averaging 9.8 points per game while Dominique Claytor has 9.7 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Thais Oliveira and Raven Johnson are contributing 9.3 and 9.2 points per game while Oliveira is leading the team with 8.5 rebounds per game. The senior center also leads the American Athletic Conference in blocked shots per game (2.0) and is second in total blocks (12).

Charlotte rides a two-game losing streak into Thursday's matchup after returning home from the Puerto Rico Classic winless. The 49ers two wins this season have been over Duquesne (75-72) and UNC Asheville (51-47). Laia Raventos leads the team with 14.7 points per game while Amaya Ransom is adding 14.0 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. Dara Pearson leads the 49ers with a team-best 8.0 rebounds per game and is the only member of the team with 20-plus offensive rebounds this season.

The Pirates are 9-24 all-time against the 49ers and are 1-2 under head coach Heather Macy. Last time the two met, Charlotte won, 79-64, on Dec. 1, 2016. Charlotte holds a 10-7 edge in games played Greenville. The Pirates have won the last two meetings in Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum most recently, 71-62, on Feb. 1, 2014.
