
GAMEDAY: Pirates Host Norfolk State for Salute to Service

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The ECU women's basketball team (3-4) is set to host Norfolk State (2-4) at 2 p.m. on Saturday. ECU and Norfolk State first met on Dec. 30, 1998, when the Pirates defeated the Spartans, 97-76, in Greenville.

The Pirates are led by Thais Oliveira who is averaging team-bests in points (9.4) and rebounds (8.4) per game. The senior center is also second the American Athletic Conference in blocked shots per game (1.9) and is second in total blocks (13). Sophomore Dominique Claytor has averaged 8.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Mickayla Sanders and Raven Johnson are contributing 8.7 and 8.4 points per game. Junior Alex Frazier is leading the team with 3.7 assists per game.

Norfolk State is coming into Saturday's matchup after dropping a home game to High Point (59-56) on Wednesday night. The Spartans two wins this season have been over VCU (66-52) and St. Francis Brooklyn (52-51). Kayla Roberts leads the team with 13.0 points per game and a team-high 8.0 rebounds per contest. Raven Russell and Alexys Long are each adding 11.7 and 10.5 points per game. The Spartans have recorded four double-digit block games this season as Khadedra Croker paces the team with 3.5 per game.

The Pirates are 4-1 all-time against the Spartans and are 3-0 under head coach Heather Macy. Last time the two met, ECU won, 65-36, on Dec. 20, 2014. The Pirates hold a 3-0 edge in games played Greenville. The Pirates have won the last three meetings, two of which have been inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
