
Pirates Clash with North Carolina Central on Education Day

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The ECU women's basketball team (5-4) will host the fifth annual Education Day game on Thursday, Dec. 14. Tip-off is scheduled for 11:30 a.m., against North Carolina Central in Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
This year's event is expected to bring more than 5,000 students and 300 volunteers from Pitt County elementary and middle schools. After Thursday's game, Education Day will have brought nearly 20,000 youths to Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum in a total of five games.

ECU looks to extend its win streak to five in the seventh all-time meeting against the Eagles. The Pirates lead the series, 6-0, with a 5-0 record at home. In the last meeting, ECU defeated NCCU, 65-28, on Dec. 4, 2012.Â

Senior center Thais Oliveira is coming off a career game at Kennesaw State where she was perfect from field goal range (9-for-9) and made four of her five free throw attempts for 22 points. Oliveira has had four 10+ rebound games this season and is tied for first in the American Athletic Conference in blocked shots (18) and blocks per game (2). Ariyana Williams has emerged as one of ECU's top offensive players recording double figures in each of the Pirates' last six games. ECU is averaging 63.4 points per game this season and is 3-0 in games in which its hold opponents to less than 59 points.
North Carolina Central enters Thursday 2-6 overall and 0-5 on the road. Rodneysha Martin leads the team with 14.9 points per game and is the lone Eagle to start all eight games. Jayla Calhoun is second on the team in scoring with 10.2 points per contest. With an average of 61.1 points per game, the Eagles have been outscored by its opponents by an average of 21.0 points per game.
ECU women's basketball season ticket holders and general fans are encouraged to sit in the purple chair back seating throughout the arena. Additionally, all concessions will be $1 with a limited menu.Â
