GREENVILLE, N.C. – The ECU women's basketball team (6-5) will return home to take on Savannah State (2-7) at 7 p.m. on Thursday in Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum. The Pirates are 4-2 at home and have not lost at home since a 71-65 overtime loss against William & Mary on Nov. 21
ECU is led by Thais Oliveira who is averaging 11.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. The senior center is also tied for first in the American Athletic Conference in blocked shots (20) and is third in blocked shots per game (1.8). Freshman Ariyana Williams has recorded double figures in the last eight contests and averages 10.0 points per game.Â
Savannah State has lost three straight and seven of the last eight games. The Tigers lost all five starters from a year ago and have 10 newcomers. Junior guard Kaylee Allen averages a team best 12.8 points per game and Donasja Scott is second on the team in scoring (12.6) and rebounding (6.8).
ECU and Savannah State have played two times since first meeting in 2004 and tie the series at one win apiece. Last time the two met was Dec. 1, 2004 when SSU defeated ECU in Savannah, 62-56.
