December 04, 2017 | Men's Basketball
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – ECU freshman Shawn Williams has been named the American Athletic Conference Rookie-of-the-Week, while senior B.J. Tyson was named to the weekly honor roll the league office announced Monday.
In a 2-0 week for ECU, Williams came off the bench to average 13.5 ppg for the Pirates. In ECU's overtime win over UNCW, Williams posted 15 points in 21 minutes of action. The redshirt-freshman followed up the effort with 12 points, including the game-clinching free throws, against Delaware State. He connected on 40 percent of his 3-point attempts (4-of-10) during the two games.
Williams has scored double figures in each of the last three games and five times overall this season. He has been the Pirates' top scorer off the bench six times and first player off the bench in three games.
Playing 79 of a possible 85 minutes across two games, Tyson averaged 19.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in two ECU wins, including a 30-point effort against UNCW. Tyson was the first Pirate to hit the 30-point mark in three years.Â
This was the first time Williams has earned the honor this year and fourth time Tyson has been named to the weekly honor roll in his career.
