Pirates Suffer 5-2 Road Loss at Davidson

Davidson, N.C. – East Carolina moved to 2-2 overall with a 5-2 road loss at Davidson (5-1) Saturday afternoon. Celia Ruiz and Nastja Rettich each won their singles matches for East Carolina in the Pirates second loss of the season.

Davidson took a 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point. Gabrielle Centenari and Alexandrea Abele defeated ECU's Michelle Castro and Maria Storozheva, 6-0, at No. 2 doubles while Ava Todd and Samantha Armas clinched the point with a win over Sara Sarjoo and Rettich at No. 3 doubles.

Ruiz made quick work of Scholvinck at the top of the singles lineup trying the overall match 1-all with her 6-0, 6-3, win. Anna Feaster then gave Davidson a 2-1 lead with a three-set win over Lisa Hofbauer, handing the freshman her first singles loss in a dual match this season.

The Wildcats claimed victory at No. 3 and No. 4 singles to clinch the match with a 4-1 lead. Rettich gave ECU its second point with a three-set win over Todd at No. 5 singles. After winning the first set, Todd evened the matchup with a 6-2 win in set two, forcing a deciding third set. Rettich put her away with a 6-3 to earn her third singles victory of the season, improving to 3-0 in matches played at the five spot.

Armas finished off the match with a win over Sarjoo. After a close 7-6 first set, Armas breezed by with a 6-1 second set giving the Wildcats the 5-2 final victory.

East Carolina returns to action Thursday on the road at Old Dominion. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
