Pirates Swept by ODU

Norfolk, Va. – East Carolina (2-3) lost to Old Dominion (5-1), 7-0, Thursday at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center in Norfolk. The Pirates lost the doubles point after falling at No. 1 and No. Maria Gomez and Nastja Rettich won the only match of the day for East Carolina at No. 2 doubles defeating Ingird Vojcinakova and Nataly Malenko, 6-4.

Nataliia Vlasova defeated Annija Veinsteina in consecutive 6-2 set for a 2-0 ODU lead in the match. Adriana Rajkovic put the Monarchs one point from victory with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Michelle Castro at No. 4 singles. Nationally-ranked Borislava Botusharov was contested in the first set by East Carolina's Celia Ruiz but gutted out a 7-5 win in the first set at the top of the lineup. She then defeated Ruiz 6-2 in set two to clinch ODU's victory with a 4-0 match lead.

Vojcinakova then beat Rettich 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles and Eliska Petrackova earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at the bottom of the lineup over Sarah Sarjoo. Lisa Hofbauer went head-to-head with No. 57 Holly Hutchinson at the No. 2 singles spot in set one, but fell 7-6. She lost set two 6-4 concluding the final point of the match with ODU on top, 7-0.

East Carolina returns home to host UNC Greensboro (1-3) at noon on Saturday. The Pirates look to get back on track following back-to-back losses.
