GREENVILLE, N.C. – Five of the six singles matches were decided in third sets Friday night as East Carolina (3-4) fell to Coastal Carolina (7-2), 5-2, at home. Celia Ruiz was the lone Pirate to bring home a win in both doubles and singles action for ECU.
Â
The Purple and Gold claimed the doubles point after Lisa Hofbauer and Ruiz defeated Sara Bondar and Marie Babayan, 6-3, at the top of the doubles lineup while Maria Gomes and Nastja Rettich routed Maria Khomchenko and Alexa Tiefel, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot.
Â
Tiefel bounced back from her doubles loss making quick work of East Carolina's Sarah Sarjoo, 6-2, 6-2 at the bottom of the singles lineup to even the match 1-all. Ruiz won her singles match in three sets over CCU's No. 1 player, Rylie Cox, to once again give ECU a lead in the match.
