NEWS & NOTES
- The Pirates snapped a six-game losing streak against Tulsa with a 69-66 win over the Golden Hurricane in Greenville a month ago. Kentrell Barkley led the Pirates with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Deng Riak also had 11 rebounds, while Andre Washington grabbed 12. Elijah Hughes added 12 points in the victory.
- Assistant coach Michael Perry will serve as the Pirates' Acting Head Coach for the 10th time Sunday, while ECU Head Coach Jeff Lebo continues to recover from hip replacement surgery on Jan. 16. There is no timetable for Lebo's return. The Pirates are 4-5 under Perry, who is in his 10th season as an assistant coach at East Carolina. Perry's first win as ECU's acting coach was against Tulsa, whom he led Georgia State to a win over in 2003, on Jan. 25. Perry spent more than four years as the head coach at Georgia State before becoming a member of the Pirates' coaching staff.
- UPCOMING MILESTONE: White is three points shy of becoming the fifth player in school history to score 1,500 points and nine points shy of moving into fourth-place on the program's all-time scoring list. White is expected to play in his 125th game Sunday, which set an ECU record for career games played. Andre Washington, who has blocked 86 shots this season, is five blocks shy of setting the ECU single-season record. Jeremy Sheppard, who has handed out a team-best 87 assists, is 10 assists away from tying the ECU freshman season record for assists.
- Barkley has scored double figures in a career-long nine straight games and has been the Pirates' leading scorer 10 times in conference play. In the last nine games, Barkley has averaged 14.9 points and 9.1 rebounds.
- White has scored double figures in four of the last five games after scoring double digits in just two of the first 10 conference games. He's averaged 13.8 points over the last five games shooting 43.6 percent (24-55) from the field and 35.3 percent (12/34) outside the arc.
- Washington is averaging 3.7 blocks per game in conference play, swatting 56 opponent field goal attempts in 15 league games after averaging just 2.3 blocks per game in non-conference play. Washington ranks fifth in the nation blocks per game (3.07) and total blocks.
- Sheppard is the top assist distributor among all American Athletic Conference freshmen, averaging 3.5 assists per game, and also ranks first among all league rookies with a 1.4 assist/turnover ratio. His 1.6 3s per game is also tied for the most among American rookies.
