
Pirates Fall To 10th At The Hayt

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. - The East Carolina men's golf team sits in 10th-place at The Hayt after shooting 6-over-par 294 during round two at Sawgrass Country Club Saturday.
The Pirates carded an 8-over 296 Friday and are 14-over for the tournament after 36 holes of plays. Tournament host North Florida leads the field at 1-over followed by Jacksonville in second-place at 4-over. UCF, Tennessee and Liberty are tied for third at 8-over.
Freshman Blake Taylor had the Pirates' low score of the second round firing a 1-under 71. He opened his round with three birdies on the first five holes and stood 3-under through seven holes played before registered consecutive bogeys. He rallied with two birdies and six pars on the next eight holes before a double bogey to conclude the round. Taylor is tied for 30th overall at 4-over-par 148.
ECU freshman Patrick Stephenson fell out of a first-place tie into a tie for seventh with a second round score of 2-over-par 74. He sits at 1-under-73 after 36 holes, three strokes off the lead.
Junior Tim Conover shot par-72 and moved up to 23rd at 3-over-par 147. Fellow junior Jackson Spires is 9-over-par and senior Jack Sides is 12-over.
Jacksonville's David Wicks, UNF's Philip Knowles, Army's Peter Kim and North Texas' Cory Churchman are tied for the individual lead at 4-under-par.
The tournament concludes Sunday with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. ECU tees off at 7:48 alongside Army and UCLA.
