Raleigh, N.C. – East Carolina lost its season opener 6-1 to in-state foe North Carolina State Friday evening. The Pirates are 0-1 overall while NC State improves to 3-2.

Marie Storozheva and Michelle Castro fell to Bianca Moldovan and Claudia Wiktorin at No. 2 doubles 6-4 giving the Wolfpack an edge in doubles. Nastja Rettich and Maria Gomez then lost in a close 7-6 match at No. 3 doubles for NC State to go ahead 1-0 winning the doubles point.

Anna Rogers defeated Storozheva 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 singles for a 2-0 NC State lead and Adrianna Reami defeated Castro at No. 3 singles 6-4, 6-1, to put the Wolfpack within one point of clinching victory.

East Carolina's Lisa Hofbauer earned the Pirates' only point of the match at No. 2 singles with a three-set victory over Wiktorin. After losing the first set 6-1, Hofbauer battled back for 6-2 win in set two forcing a rubber match. She went on to clinch her first dual match singles victory as a Pirate, 6-3.

Martina Frantova defeated Celia Ruiz in three sets at No. 1 singles clinching the win for NC State. Amanda Rebol and Moldovan earned the final two points for the Wolfpack at No. 5 and No. 6 singles beating Sarah Sarjoo and Rettich, respectively.
