GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina men's and women's track and field teams will have another opportunity to improve their times and marks this weekend when the squad attends the High Point VertKlasse Meeting and the Pepsi Florida Relays. Both meets are scheduled to take place Friday and Saturday with select events in Florida beginning Thursday.
Â
"We are splitting our teams this weekend," head coach Curt Kraft said. "As I stated before, the attitudes and the confidence of both teams are at a high level. The focus of this weekend is to get some quality marks and times and set us up for the conference and regional championships later on in May. We will be seeing some great competition at both meets."
Â
This year's edition of the VertKlasse Meeting has 1,572 entered athletes from 47 different schools. Field events begin Friday at 10 a.m., while track events will commence at 2:30 p.m. Saturday's festivities start at 9 a.m. with field events and participation track heats. The main event - a three-hour, fast-paced assortment of events - begins at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and runs through 5:30 p.m. A live video stream will be available via the Big South Network from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. Flash Results also will be providing live results, including attempt-by-attempt field events, throughout the meet.
Â
The Pepsi Florida Relays features numerous Olympians, including a handful of Olympic gold medalists, World Championships qualifiers, and thousands of collegiate and high school competitors. Friday's and Saturday's action will be streamed live on SEC Network +, via Watch ESPN. Live results are provided by Delta Timing.
Â
Current junior thrower Galissia Cause will attempt to defend her Florida Relays shot put title from last year's meet as she recorded a then school-record mark of 15.29 meters.
Â
Sophomore Stefano Migliorati currently leads the American Athletic Conference and is 22nd nationally in the 800m while classmate Nick Ciaccia (5,000m), junior D'Ante Yarborough (110m hurdles), the men's 4x100 and 4x400 relays, senior Cheyenne Hutchinson (100m hurdles) and sophomore Courtney Miles (long jump) all rank second in the league.
Â
"I see no reason why we won't continue to build momentum as the season goes on," Kraft added. "I really believe we will have achieved some great marks at the end of the weekend."
