
Pirates Defeat South Carolina State 6-1

Orangeburg, S.C. – East Carolina (4-5) handed South Carolina State (1-5) its fifth loss of the season with a 6-1 victory at the Hardeep Judge Tennis Courts Thursday afternoon. The win snaps a two-match losing streak for the Pirates who return to action Friday at College of Charleston.
The Pirates cruised through doubles sweeping South Carolina State earning the doubles point. Nastja Rettich gave ECU a 2-0 match lead with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Intissar Rassif at No. 6 singles. Lisa Hofbauer put the Pirates within a point of clinching victory when she defeated Oleksandra Filippova 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and Sarah Sarjoo secured the win at No.4 singles with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Claudia Roca.
Celia Ruiz and Michelle Castro both won their singles matches at No. 1 and No. 5, respectively, while the Bulldogs' only point of the match came from Andjela Vasic's three-set win over Annija Veinsteina.
