Pirates Sweep Hampton in Final Home Match

Greenville, N.C. – East Carolina (10-9) swept Hampton, 7-0, in the final home match of the season at River Birch Tennis Center Tuesday afternoon. The Pirates finish the home slate 5-1 marking the third straight year they have lost just one home contest.

Celia Ruiz and Lisa Hofbauer started things off for ECU with a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles. Michelle Castro and Annija Veinsteina then secured the doubles point with a 6-2 win on court three over Haley Mullins and Anastasiia Romanova.

Celia Ruiz won her singles match due to Hampton's Kristina Titova forfeiting at the top of the lineup which put ECU ahead 2-0. The Pirates went on to sweep doubles play with four of the remaining five matches being decided in straight sets. Maria Storozheva's 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles secured the win for East Carolina.

The Pirates have two regular season matches left to play. They will travel to Cincinnati, Ohio, this weekend to face Cincinnati on Saturday and Connecticut on Sunday.
