Pirates Earn 4-3 Win in AAC Play

Cincinnati, Ohio. – East Carolina (11-9, 1-0) earned a 4-3 win over Connecticut (10-12, 0-5) in an American Athletic Conference matchup Saturday afternoon. The Pirates won the doubles point to lead the match early and then earned the win splitting singles 3-3 en route to the one-point victory.

Celia Ruiz and Lisa Hofbauer defeated UC's Emma Alderman and Yelyzaveta Pletnyeva 6-4 but the Bearcats' won 6-4 on court two. Michelle Castro and Annija Veinsteina defeated Jacqueline Lazaro 6-3 on court three as the Pirate won the point.

Ruiz earned a 6-2, 7-6 win over Alderman at the top of the singles lineup while Hofbauer defeated Jacquelyn Fitz-Randolph 6-0, 7-6. Nastja Rettich was the third Pirate to win her singles match which was the deciding court.

East Carolina wraps up regular season play Sunday with a match against Cincinnati. First serve is set for 2 p.m. at the Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center.
