Pirates Drop Regular Season Finale 4-0

Cincinnati, Ohio. – East Carolina (11-10, 1-1) lost its regular season finale, 4-0, to Cincinnati (16-6, 4-1). The loss snaps a four-match win streak for ECU while the Bearcats enter the American Athletic Conference Tournament with nine-straight wins. Â

Cincinnati won the doubles point after it came down to tiebreakers on court No. 1 and No. 2. Antonella Bramato and Carolina Morton defeated Michelle Castro and Annija Veinsteina 6-3on court three to lead doubles. With the remaining two matches in a tiebreaker, Lauren Bellinger and Kelly Poggensee-Wei edged Lisa Hofbauer and Celia Ruiz 7-6 (7-3) to clinch the point for the Bearcats.

The Pirates lost the first set on all six courts in singes action as Cincinnati's doubles carried the momentum to singles. Castro lost to Morton 6-2, 6-1, on court four. Bramato then defeated Hofbauer 6-1, 6-2 putting the Bearcats within one point of a victory. Harley Hutchison defeated Nastja Rettich in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 to claim the 4-0 win for Cincinnati halting the remaining three singles matches.

East Carolina finishes 11-10 overall and heads to Orlando, Fla., for the AAC Tournament which is set to begin Wednesday, April 19.
