Pirates' Season Comes to an End in AAC Quarterfinals

Orlando, Fla. – No. 6 seed East Carolina saw its season come to an end with a 4-1 loss to No. 3 seed SMU in the American Athletic Conference Tournament Thursday afternoon. The Pirates finish their season 11-10 overall after going 1-1 in the AAC Tournament.

SMU took the doubles point with wins at No.2 and No.3. The Mustangs took a 2-0 lead when Sarai Monarrez Yesaki defeated Annija Veinsteina 6-0, 6-2 at No.2 singles. Sophomore standout Celia Ruiz beat Liza Buss 6-2, 6-0 at No.1 singles to make it 2-1 overall.

The Mustangs claimed wins on court four over Michelle Castro and court six over Nastja Rettich.

Sarah Sarjoo led 7-5, 3-2 at No.5 when play was halted while Lisa Hofbauer was in a third set against SMU's Dasha Sharapova on court three.

SMU advances to play No. 7 USF Friday at 3 p.m. The Bulls upset No. 2 seed Tulane in the quarterfinals.
