GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina track and field program will put its home facility on display this weekend as the Pirates host the 2017 Bill Carson Invitational at the Minges Family Field at Bate Foundation Track & Field Facility.
Â
Coastal Carolina, The Citadel, Charlotte, NC State and Troy will make the trip to Greenville for the meet.
Â
Field events will kick off each day of action – Friday at 10 a.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m. Admission is free of charge for all fans.
Â
Last season, ECU won both team titles as the women racked up a meet record of 225.33 points. NC State and Troy finished second and third on the women's side with 111 and 104.50 points. As for the men, the Pirates turned in a total of 164 points while Coastal Carolina and Troy captured second and third with 153.50 and 121.50 points respectively. ECU won nine individual events during the weekend.
Â
"This meet is without question one of the high points of our entire season each and every year," head coach Curt Kraft said. "This is the fourth annual Bill Carson Invitational. Both teams look forward to competing at home each and every year. This home track meet gives all of our student athletes the opportunity to compete in front of our home fans, our administration, their professors and their families."
Â
A trio of Pirates set new school records last weekend at the Florida Relays in sophomore Courtney Warner (100m/11.44), sophomore Grace Sullivan (3000m steeplechase/10:31.91) and junior Galissia Cause (shot put/15.90m). East Carolina also boasts a pair of athletes that lead the American Athletic Conference in their respective events – sophomore Stefano Migliorati (800m) and Cause (shot put).
Â
"As a coaching staff, we can sense the extra pep in their steps and the excitement that they display looking forward to this weekend," Kraft added. "Our goal is to win both the men's and women's meets. Both teams are competing with a lot of confidence and momentum."
Â
Following this weekend's home meet, ECU will next participate in the Duke Invitational scheduled for April 21-22 in Durham, N.C.
