Pirates Shutout Campbell on Senior Day

Greensboro, N.C. – East Carolina (9-9) shutout Campbell, 4-0, Saturday afternoon as the Pirates celebrated Senior Day at the River Birch Tennis Complex. The win marks the second-straight victory for the Purple and Gold who will play its final regular season home match Tuesday against Hampton.

Alexandra Andrivot and Isabel Boada gave Campbell the early edge in doubles action with a 6-1 win over the Pirates' top duo Celia Ruiz and Lisa Hofbauer. Maria Gomez and Nastja Rettich quickly evened things up with a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles over Lea Cutura and Pauline Roustan. Michelle Castro and Annija Veinsteina grinded out a 7-5 win at the bottom of the doubles lineup to give ECU a 1-0 match lead clinching the doubles point.

Hofbauer defeated Alexandra Nicoara 6-1, 6-3, for a 2-0 Pirates' lead. Rettich finished shortly after with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Nina Asanin on court six putting the victory in reach for the Purple and Gold. Veinsteina's 6-1, 6-2 win over Cutura at No. 2 singles clinched the 4-0 win for the Pirates as the remainder of the matches were suspended.

East Carolina has three matches left in the regular season. The final home match against Hampton is set to begin at 11 am Tuesday.
