
Yorgen And Ruiz Named April Student-Athletes Of The Month

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Senior Charlie Yorgen of the baseball team and sophomore Celia Ruiz of the women's tennis team have been selected the male and female Student-Athletes of the Month following an outstanding April of competition. The pair has also combined to complete 77 hours of community service so far this academic year.

Yorgen hit .356 with two doubles, one triple, and two home runs during the month while driving in 11 runs and scoring 10. He helped guide the Pirates to American Athletic Conference series wins over Cincinnati on the road and Tulane at home. Yorgen currently leads ECU in batting average (.361), on base percentage (.446), runs scored (82) and walks (19). He is also second on the squad in slugging percentage (.500), hits (57), RBIs (30) and doubles (11).

The baseball team heads to Florida this weekend for a three-game American Conference series against USF.

Ruiz began the month nationally ranked at No. 124 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. She went 5-1 in singles play and 5-2 in doubles while picking up singles wins against AAC opponents Connecticut and SMU at the No. 1 position. Ruiz ended the season with an 11-6 record in singles and a 12-6 mark in doubles.
