Gaffney Signs Professional Basketball Contract

GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina women's basketball alumna Kristen Gaffney signed a professional contract Monday to play for Eisovoegel in Freiburg, Germany. Eisovoegel is a member of the 16-team second-tier level of Basketball Bundesliga, the professional basketball league of Germany.

"I am very grateful and excited to play in Germany," Gaffney said. "Basketball has been a huge part of my life throughout CYO league, AAU and college. To now be able to continue my basketball career at the professional level is a blessing."

Founded in 1953, Eisovoegel is a three-time German DDBL Cup Semifinalist and won the 2013 championship. It took second place in the 2016-17 CEWL European Cup posting a 2-2 record in Group A.

Gaffney started in all 30 games for ECU last season. She led the Pirates in scoring with 14.9 points per game as well as rebounds (6.6), minutes (31.9) and field goal percentage (.495). Â She had 21 double-figure scoring games in her single season with the Pirates, including a season-high 32 points against Greensboro College where she made an American Athletic Conference season-high 15 field goals. She was named AAC Player of the Week Nov. 14 and was selected to the weekly honor roll Dec. 19.
